MEET ARNAV KOKKIRALA

I'm a student at Princeton Day School located in Princeton, New Jersey. Throughout middle school I have been interested in fashion, but high school was when I first began to think more about the meaning behind this prominent art medium. One such way came through understanding the cultural expression within clothing. For example, how the graphic designs on many Cav Empt pieces reflect an eerie allusion to the past whilst the silhouettes and composition resemble a dystopian future. These key elements that define many of Cav Empt's releases can be tied back to the brand's founding during the 2011 earthquakes in Japan when Tokyo's iconic neon lights were out. During this tragedy, the Cav Empt founders were disappointed with the reality of the situation and began the brand centered around an idea of dissatisfaction with the current day. Examples like this, how design motifs of a brand can be tied back to a natural disaster and its impact on one's view of modernity and contemporary society, are what made me fall in love with the field of material culture.

However, to my dismay, I found very little online with people my age who shared this passion with me. Thus, I decided to create this website as a a point of reference to delve deeper into this field and a hub where people with this shared interest can gather and feel a sense of community.
